Assisted Stretching using Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Re-education (PNR) is a technique that blends targeted stretching with principles from proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) to improve flexibility, range of motion, and muscle function. PNR involves a combination of passive stretching and muscle contractions, guided by a trained practitioner, to enhance the body’s neuromuscular control and coordination. The practitioner may apply stretches, followed by brief muscle contractions, and then stretching again, that help activate the muscle spindle and Golgi tendon organs, optimizing muscle relaxation and lengthening.
